A major addition to the boathouse came in 1946 when a complete second floor was added to the boathouse, along with wrought iron fencing and stone piers around the perimeter of the property. The additional height to the boathouse came when Whiting replaced his 1940 Berger yacht, the 42-foot "Nauti-Gal," with a 57-foot version that same year. It was during these years that the guest lists at boathouse parties included tennis greats, such as Bobby Riggs and Frank Parker. The upstairs apartment area was for the man who ran the boat, for Frank never used it. It is currently used as office spaces for the Coast Guard.
